Self Care

Self-Care is the basis for our well-being and the overall ability to enjoy our daily practices. For many of us, in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this can prove a daunting task. But sometimes it is the little things that can make a drastic change in our outlook on life. Taking time to ourselves is a very important aspect to everyone’s daily routine, whether this be a nature walk, a soothing bath or a meditative activity. This helps us remind us of who we are and what we actually need out of our life. 

 

Self-Care Rituals

Fresh Air

Taking time on a daily basis to get outside, whether this be a stroll, a hike or even just sitting in a peaceful spot can make a drastic change in the way we think and feel. Listening to the sounds of nature is very soothing and can greatly help in achieving a calm state of mind. The wilderness reminds us of who we are and where we came and is a very grounding experience. Watching wildlife interact with their environment can also prove to be a very relaxing and inspirational way to clear one’s mind. Try to do this at least once a day, even if only for ten minutes, and one should notice a great change in their outlook on life.

Meditation

There are many forms of meditation and not everybody has the time or space to meditate outside in nature. People have found  all sorts of ways to slow and clear their mind while still being inside. A simple way of doing this is to sit at least ten minutes a day in a peaceful quiet spot, and focus on your breathing until your mind starts to clear and wander. Over time this practice should greatly reduce stress and start to provide profound insight into one’s life.

Artistic Expression

Exploring one’s artistic side can be very calming and inspirational. Everyone is very different and one may find it difficult to find something they enjoy doing long enough to reach a meditative state. It doesn’t have to be an extensive art form that comes with time, it can simply be an adult colouring book or singing along to music. This art therapy can greatly reduce anxiety and bring self-awareness. It offers your brain a break from the incessant tasks and worries of everyday life and allows it to flow freely. As your art form improves so will your self-confidence and self-acceptance, bringing more meaning to one’s life.

Yoga 

Yoga has been used for thousands of years to achieve peace and enlightenment. Many people enjoy the social aspect of yoga classes but one does not need to pay for classes to benefit from this ancient practice. There is plenty of free instruction online and one can enjoy the meditative aspects of yoga right in their home. Yoga is an excellent activity to practice outside in the fresh air and can be very useful for synchronizing with one’s environment.

Take a Bath

Taking a bath is known for its ability to release stress and improve the mood. Baths are a therapeutic combination of isolation, quiet and comfort, allowing for calm self-reflection. 

With the addition of candlelight, soothing music, and essential oils, warm baths can prove to be the ultimate self-care activity. Best utilized when one is not in a rush and can just take the time they need to meditate and let of the everyday stressors.
