The Solstice is a celebration of the seasonal movement of the sun. The Winter Solstice is when the Sun is at its lowest point and after the days begin to get longer again.
This is why the Winter Solstice is a time for hope and faith. It is a time for reflection, for spiritual growth and a time to celebrate Mother Nature.
We all have to deal with Darkness. Whether its inner imbalances, depression or a loved one who is having a hard time. The Winter Solstice gives us hope that things will get better; that the light will return.
On December 21st time should be used for reflection. Have patients and take comfort in the Darkness, the silence, and allow yourself to have time to rest and reflect.
Although patience can be hard in this time of Darkness we must remember in nature and for all life…
Rest is the key for Growth.
Ways to celebrate the winter solstice and to make your own winter solstice ritual.
Being that this day is such a great day for self reflection it is a great day to journal and to reflect back on journal entries and/or tarot reading over the past year.
Set up an altar in advance with all your crystals, herbs, candles and other personal items that you wish to use for the winter solstice.
If you wish to celebrate more traditionally you can light a fire on the eve of the solstice to bring in the light for reflection and hope. The ashes can be collected the next day to carry and have through the new year to keep new intention with you.
Meditation. Meditation is a great way to relax the mind and bring easier self reflection. It is also a great way to bring in positive, peaceful vibes into the ‘new year’.
After you have self reflected on your past year you can do a yearly tarot reading or other divination work. ( some people prefer to do this on Samhain or on December 31st).
